Movavi Video Converter :: If You Cannot Open a File

It may happen that a file you want to play or edit with Movavi Video Converter couldn't be opened.
There are several possible reasons why this happens:

1. You are opening an unsupported video format or a file that is not a video file.
With ConvertMovie, you can open files that have the following formats and extensions only: AVI (*.avi), MPEG (*.mpeg, *.mpg, *.dat), Windows Media Movie (*.wmv, *.asf), Quick Time Movie (*.mov), video formats for cellphones 3GPP and 3GPP2 (*.3gp, *.3gpp2), IFO and VOB files stored on DVD (*.VOB, *.IFO), If you try to open a file that has any other extension, you will get an error message:

2. You are opening a file that has been corrupted.
A file may get corrupted when you download it or modify it with a video editing software (for example, when you turn off the computer while saving the file). There can be other ways of corrupting a file, such as hardware failure, software bugs and so on. If you try to open a corrupted file, you will get the same error message:

3. You are opening a file that uses a codec you don't have installed in your system.
Since the AVI files are dependent on codecs, it may happen that a file you are trying to open is compressed with a codec you don't have. In this case, you will get a message as shown below. There is no need to panic, though. Just follow the link in the message to obtain the codec you need.

4. To open some MOV videos, you will need QuickTime version 7.0.3 or later fully installed on your computer. If you don't have QuickTime installed, you will get the message shown below. Just click the link in the message to download QuickTime for free.

5. To open Windows Media Files (.WMV), you should have Windows Media components installed on your computer. If you don't have Windows Media Player installed, the message shown below will appear. Click the provided link to download Windows Media Player from the Microsoft website.

6. While attempting to copy a copy-protected DVDs or CDs, you get the following message. To get a solution on how to deal with such a problem, click Learn More and follow the link.

7. While attempting to open a DRM-protected *.WMV files, you get the following message. Movavi Video Converter does not support such videos.

If you experience other problems opening the files, please contact our Technical Support.
