Using the brackets
Using the bracket buttons, you can mark the beginning and end of each scene. Using the brackets works best if you only need to keep a small part of the video.
The Left Bracket marks the beginning of a clip, rejecting the parts before it. 
The Right Bracket marks the end of a clip, rejecting the parts after it.
